10 months ago I took one of the most important decisions in my life: gastric sleeve surgery. At first I had many doubts about the surgery and was especially afraid of the anesthesia, but upon listening to Dr. Joya, who gave me his full support along with his team, comprised of Drs. Espinoza and Munguia, I decided to have gastric sleeve surgery, which was the one recommended to me by the doctor. He gave me great hope and especially all kinds of answers.
The psychological change upon having this surgery is that I was a bitter woman. I did not care much for my physical condition and made my husband and my children live with my frustration of being overweight. We were not living in harmony, to the extent that I preferred to get away from them so they could live happily. When I decided to have the surgery, I cried because the internist gave me the news that I was diabetic. I fell into a state of panic for my children, but a few minutes before surgery Dr. Joya said, “DO NOT WORRY; EVERYTHING WILL TURN OUT FINE AND ALL YOUR DISCOMFORTS WILL DISAPPEAR.” It was true; I placed myself in the hands of God and Dr. Joya. I lived four weeks of despair, because I could not eat what I used to. There were weeks in which I did not lose an ounce of weight, but I had a lot of patience. Over time I realized that it was not the same as before, because my eating habits were different. I had the chance to change my life and that of my family, with the hopes of being a normal, attractive, thin woman.
I started by walking 30 minutes a day around the Malecon with 1 kg. weights in each hand, after the doctor released me to, of course. I never gave up. I changed my eating habits. When I went to the nutritionist he asked me to eat five times a day, and I realized that what he asked was nearly impossible because what I could eat was less than what he recommended. That’s when I realized I had a powerful weapon to do what I wanted, with due care, of course, taking vitamins to reduce excessive hair loss and the desire to sleep all day. But that’s nothing compared to the fight I had before with diets, exercise and rejection by everybody, all with no results.
The care I had after surgery was minimal, since my wounds did not hurt and did not get infected, and the doctors were very careful with my follow up care. The expected results arrived about a year after surgery, but it was a team effort, as the doctor did his part and I did mine. Now I am a different woman and more than anything, I am HAPPY, and I thank God for putting Dr. Joya and his team in my path.
I have heard a lot of comments of people who are afraid, saying the surgery is dangerous and actually it is, as is any other type of surgery, but it is worth the risk because I have not had any complications and I do not take any medicine to maintain the results of the surgery. If you ask me if I recommend it, I can say that you will be 100% satisfied with the results you will obtain. Sure, we have to do our part so that it works, and make sacrifices, especially of tortillas, pop, and bread.
